In Edocman you can notify users that a document has been added or updated using the Edocman Notification plugin
Once this is activated you can set which type of users receive notifications (ie Registered) for each category of document. See screen shot.
This is very useful for us, but what would be even better is if users could sign up for or sign out of receiving notifications at the category level.
At the moment all our registered users receive notifications even if they do not want them. Some get a bit frustrated at receiving notifications for documents they might not be interested in.
Allowing the user to control this at a categogory level would be very useful.
Just some other thoughts.
1. Allow users to sign up to receive/Not receive by category as well as or instead of by individual document. This would allow users to determine beforehand if they want to receive documents from a category before they are sent out.
2. Allow use of CRON jobs to send out email. So that users could receive one email with summary of all documents uploaded or changed, rather than one email for every upload/change
