Product filenames with spaces

I was looking on the website under media/com_eshop/products with the idea of uploading corrected versions of some images. However I see entries like this in that directory:
143219.jpg
143219 Copy.jpg
153628.jpg
153628 Copy Copy Copy Copy.jpg

and so on
First of all my server does not recognize any filenames that have spaces, and that is the case with many other servers.
Secondly, what are the copies and why are they there? Can they just be deleted? I would like to delete them.

THe image files with "Copy" name were created when you copy products. How many products that you are having on your site?

If the your hosting does not recognize the space in the file name, then I think that we should delete these files.
