What would be the best way to handle the past events' URLs?

My past events are still very high on Google for certain searches. If I click on the link, I'm brought to a page which shows the Categories. This is not a normal way for navigating to my events, so things don't look great, and users end up on the wrong pages.
Is it possible to redirect a past event/category to a specified page?
Thanks,
Donal

In that case, I am not sure what should be an expected behavior? Maybe 404 error is the best?

Before the lastest cmponent updates when someone found one of my past events on google clicking on it led to the event in question correctly. Now all of them lead to a page which shows just the Categories.
Is it possible to recover the previous behavior?
Thanks,

People are accessing the event from a link found on a Google search.Tuan Pham Ngoc wrote: So you are having past events displayed on your site or not? Or people are accessing to it from the link they found on Google Search?

404 would not be good for me. The events recur annually, so I might have an equivalent event each year.
Ideally, for me, I could put in a URL for each event. When that event has passed, anybody trying to access the event will be redirected to the URL I entered. The user might then be able to browse to the current event.

I have 200-odd past events. These events all fall into 1 of 4 categories.
I don't use menus to navigate to the individual events.
I have a menu pointing to each category, which lists all of the events in that category. I have an events booking google map on most pages, which a user can use to select their event, and I also have created an RSJoomla form, which users can complete to navigate to the event they require.
SHould I be using menus?

Donal
