Custom field not appearing on child events

I have parent events with custom fields which appear fine. When I create the repeat (child) events the fields are missing unless I go to the custom field and select all of the child events manually. I can't select all events as different events have different custom fields.
Please tell me how to fix this, maybe I have missed a setting somewhere.

Each child event. basically, an individual event, so you would need to select the field for every event you want

In your case, maybe configure the system to assign custom fields to categories instead of to events would be easier?
