Changing Plan to Recurring Subscription was created by Graham S. Jarvis
Hello,

I have plans that are "standard" non-Recurring Subscriptions with an expiry date of 31/12/2019
Expiry notices have already been sent out (but I'm not sure if they have gone to all subscribers - because they have various initial subscription dates (?) - How do I find out if all subscribers have been told that there subscription has expired?

The client now wants the subscriptions plans to be automatically renewed.

What will happen if I simply change a plan to a Recurring Subscription?
- Will OSM automatically extend the expiry dates (for those who didn't do it themselves (renew) already?
- Will any e-mails be sent to tell people to pay? (They are off-line payment subscriptions)

Is there anything else I should "watch out" for?

Thanks in advance,

-Graham-

Hello,

is there nobody who can tell me what happens if I change an existing plan to become a "recurring" plan?

Thanks,

Hello Graham

When you change a plan from one time to recurring:

- All existing subscriptions will still be one time subscription. So users will still have to renew their subscription manually

- Only new subscriptions (subscribe after you change the plan to recurring) will be recurring subscription (mean automatic renewal)

Please note that if you change the plan to recurring, you need to:

- Remove the expired date which you setup for the plan
- Set subscription length (for example, to 1 Year if it's 1 year recurring subscription)

Hello Tuan,

thanks for the update.

Is there a way to update the database to move people onto the recurring plan?
- I already have people who have renewed their subscription - and I haven't changed it to "recurring" yet.

When you say "Only new subscriptions (subscribe after you change the plan to recurring) will be recurring subscription (mean automatic renewal)" does this also include those who renew their expired subscriptions?
(These are not strictly "new" subscribers)

Thanks again,
-Graham-

Hi Graham

No, there is not a away to do that. If you have users already renewed the subscription, I believe it's because they renewed the subscription manually (logged in to your site, then renew the subscription, not automatic renewal)

Is there anywhere in the documentation that explains how subscription renewal works (in practice).
I mean :
- how does OSM manage one-time subscriptions: e-mail reminders and when is a subscription finally expired.
- for recurring subscriptions, when are e-mails sent (re-payment requests) when do subscriptions end/expire if not paid.

I don't understand the difference between one-time and recurring subscriptions if people don't pay the subscription fee (off-line payment).

Thanks.

Hello Graham

1. When users subscribe for a plan, there will be subscription start date and subscription end date for that subscription. If today date is greater than end date of the subscription, the subscription will be expired

2. When the reminder is sent depends on:

- The subscription end date of the subscription
- And the reminder settings in the plan

See membershipprodoc.joomservices.com/basic-setup/setup-reminder for detailed instructions

3. If you just use offline payment, better just use one time subscription plan. Recurring Subscription Plan is only useful if you use online payment gateway such as PayPal. For these cases, payment gateway will charge subscribers automatically and then notify the system so that the subscription will be renewed

Tuan
