Newsletter subscription requires AcyMailing?

Hi,
I was looking to see how you integrate a newsletter signup and it seems from your blog post that this is done via an AcyMailing plugin. Does this mean that I'm forced to use AcyMailing? I was planning to use something like MailChimp instead.

Can you explain how this would work in practice? Could I use the free version of AcyMailing and still integrate with another email service provider?
