Email address instead of username on Checkout

Is there a way to make Checkout asking for the email address instead of username to register and log in?

I'm asking because this is the modern standard (Amazon, eBay etc.), but I know Joomla doesn't allow it without any "hack".

Already supported via ticket system!

It's a CSM related limit: in Joomla user name is needed to add a user.
Workaround: there are some login extensions allowing to login asking only email and password. In my opinion the best one is Improved AJAX Login & Register . You can see it in action on my Eshop website .

Furthermore it allows register and login via social accounts. Thanks to Giang I fully integrated it in the 1st step of the checkout too: try to add an item to the cart then go to checkout to see what I mean.
