You don't seem to have a smart search module for ecart. Only a search module.
How can I make the smart search module work with ecart?

EShop has already had Advanced Search module like that. Please look at it on the left side of our demo site at joomdonationdemo.com/eshop/shopping-cart.html

I do see a plugin for Search - Eshop and the results for eshop show in Joomla search but no plugin for Smart Search Eshop. This would be a nice addition.

You are correct. There is no plugin for Smart Search EShop now. I will consider to add it in the future.
