mail chimp plugin not updating mail list

We've enabled the mail chimp plugin, set the api pass code, in the event we picked the list the event attendee should be added to but when they pay for an event they never get added to that list or any list and we receive no error messages and there are no entries in the error log.

How can we diagnose this?
