Double validation issue

I have added custom fields for phone number and set as require . My problem is when fields is empty alert coming as
Field is require
Invalid phone number

Is wrong validation . When fields are empty the alert should be fields are require . when i enter wrong alpha character alert must me Invalid phone number

To be honest, we just use JQuery validation engine and it is hard to change it. This is not a big issue, so I think we can use it as how it is. Will that be OK ?
