Configuration of the waiting list

Hi.
Could you please help me solve the problem with the configuration of the waiting list. Currently our client can sign up for the waiting list only if the event is the next day or later. How to set a waiting list, so that our client can sign up to it on the day of the event?

So basically, users can still join the waiting list even the event is already started? It doesn't make sense to me. When the event is already started, what's the reason users still join waiting list ?

We want to be able to sign up on a ‘waiting list’ until the start of the event, because at the moment the possibility of sign up on the ‘waiting list’ ends the day before the event.
