The translation manager is basically a GUI editor for the "language" file stored in (for example, on my site using English-GreatBritan) /language/en-GB/en-GB.com_eventbooking.ini . Make sure that file permissions allow writing to this file (on my site, the folders are set to 755 and the ini file is set to 644). Alternately, you can edit this file directly (just make sure to maintain the file structure and don't accidental delete a line break or you will merge 2 items together .

I take it that it is the same for the eShop? Rather: language / en-GB / bak.en-GB.com_eshop.ini
